About this event

Thursdays, November 12th and 19th and December 10th and 17th

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Join Museum Educator Myron Solomon for a four-week exploration of abstraction inspired by the exhibition, In the Eyes and Mind of the Feral Child: The Art of Tom McNease.

Participants will begin with collage, using personal photographs and peeled paint to cut, rearrange, layer, and rebuild images and materials into new abstract compositions. The second half of the course shifts into fluid painting and sculpture, where students will create painted surfaces and then transform those materials into suspended three-dimensional forms.

Across both sessions, participants will explore how color, shape, movement, composition, and material can change the way an artwork is seen and experienced.

What to expect:

November 12: Abstract Photo Collage: Cut, rearrange and layer personal photographs to transform familiar images into an abstract collage.

November 19: Peeled Paint Collage: Peel, cut, layer and rearrange dried paint pieces into an abstract collage.

December 10: Fluid Painting: Create fluid abstract paintings while preparing painted sheets to dry and use in the following project.

December 17: Floating Sculpture: Use dried paint pieces to create a suspended mobile sculpture where color and form move through space.

Supplies provided, but personal materials and meaningful found objects are encouraged.

About Teaching Artist Myron Solomon, Jr

Myron Solomon, Jr. is an interdisciplinary visual artist from New Orleans. A Dillard University BFA and School of Visual Arts MFA graduate, his work pushes beyond traditional New Orleans art while honoring its cultural roots. Exploring existential themes, Myron uses hyperbole to evoke introspection in his audience. His passion for the arts extends to education, where he shares his knowledge with youth, aiming to inspire the same transformative experiences that shaped his own journey.
