About this event
Come get your body moving with local artist Ceylon Seiber, in this high-intensity, full-body movement class. We will incorporate the basic foundations of Mat Pilates, while combining dance conditioning techniques. In honor of the revered Pilates instructor, Kathleen Stanford Grant, Ceylon aims to create a safe space for POC to explore the mind-body connections to the pilates form, while finding new ways to care for themselves. Class begins with intentional breaths that will prepare the body and mind, while introducing the use of breathing as a cue to our movement throughout class. Our working focus is to build strength, stamina, increase flexibility, and stability. We will close out class with our positive thought circle to bring back the newfound awareness of our class experience and goals. Mats are required for class and if you don’t own one, we’ve got you covered! Ceylon Seiber is a New Orleans born native, who found and began her creative artistry through the roots of the Crescent City. Graduating in the second class of NOCCA’s Academic Studio program and recently completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Dance from Florida State University’s School of Dance, Ceylon has excelled in her dance education into becoming a professional performing artist. She has performed in works for Martha Graham’s Panorama Project, Jennifer Archibald, Scott Putman, Millicent Johnnie, Ann Carlson, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. During her scholastic ventures she has been able to attend summer intensives with Alvin Ailey and Ananya Dance Theater, and has completed office administrative internships with Urban Bush Women’s 2018 Summer Leadership Institute and has also worked alongside MANCC (Maggie Allesee NatIonal Center for Choreography) while as a student in Fall 2019. Now residing in New Orleans as a independent performing dance artist, she has built connections with many local dance artists and has had the pleasure working on projects with Dow-Dance Company, KMDP, Courtney Paige, Lauren Messina, and Edward Spots. Not only does she love to perform but she also enjoys choreographing and teaching dance. She has been able to present two dance choreographic works in New Orleans at local art spaces such as the Contemporary Arts Center and the Binge Dance Festival associated with Dow-Dance Company. Her number one priority as a dance instructor is to bring out the best in her students and make them feel comfortable moving around inside their bodies wherever they may go.
