Floyd Collins (Thursday Night)

About this event

In the winter of 1925, deep beneath the hills of Kentucky, cave explorer Floyd Collins became trapped underground. What began as a desperate effort to save one man soon drew reporters, spectators, and rescuers from across the country—turning a remote Kentucky cave into the center of a national sensation.

Based on the remarkable true story, Floyd Collins is an intimate and deeply human musical about a man caught between the world beneath the earth and the life waiting for him above it.

With a haunting score by Adam Guettel —rooted in bluegrass and Americana and filled with moments of striking beauty—the musical explores the people at the center of the story: Floyd, his family, those fighting to reach him, and a nation increasingly captivated by his fate.

At once atmospheric, gripping, and deeply moving , Floyd Collins explores family, faith, ambition, hope, and the longing to be truly seen while asking what happens when one person's struggle becomes everyone else's story.

Featuring a talented cast and crew of Jesuit High School students and young women from schools throughout Greater New Orleans , this rarely produced musical invites audiences into a theatrical experience unlike anything the Philelectic Society has presented in recent seasons.
