in september, lola's restaurant posted a plea for community support. 32 years on esplanade avenue. founded by angel miranda, who came to new orleans from seville, spain, and built something extraordinary in this city. now his daughters pilar and isabel are running it, keeping his vision alive, holding the door open for all of us.

32 years of paella. 32 years of hospitality. 32 years of this family feeding new orleans.

when i read that post i knew immediately. the black mantilla brunch was always going to be a celebration of culture, of women, of tradition. and there was only one place in this city where it belonged.

when latina-owned businesses need support, latinas step up. that is not a trend. that is who we are.
