What makes a yoga class memorable?
Often, it isn’t the complexity of the sequence, the perfection of the alignment, or the depth of the teacher’s knowledge. It is the feeling that something real happened—that we were moved, inspired, connected, or reminded of something we already knew somewhere deep within ourselves.
Bhakti is the yoga of the heart. Its practices draw from the universal human arts of singing, dancing, storytelling, poetry, ritual, music, and devotion—simple, ancient ways of helping us connect with the mystery and meaning of being alive.
In this four-hour teacher training, we’ll explore how the spirit and practices of Bhakti can bring greater depth, creativity, musicality, and feeling to our asana classes. Rather than adding more information to your teaching, we’ll explore how to bring more of yourself —your heart, imagination, inspiration, and authentic voice—into the room.
Seán will share insights and practices cultivated over more than 25 years of weaving Hatha and Bhakti yoga together in his teaching, practice, music, and storytelling.
In this exploration, we’ll:
• Teach from what moves us — exploring how sincere inspiration and personal connection can become powerful sources for our teaching.
• Find the human heart within yoga’s stories and traditions — discovering universal themes within mythology, mantra, poetry, and philosophy that can make the deeper dimensions of yoga more accessible and relevant to our students.
• Turn asana into meaning-making ritual — experimenting with ways to approach familiar postures and sequences as opportunities for story, symbolism, contemplation, and transformation.
• Bring more musicality to our classes — exploring how music, rhythm, pacing, and silence can shape the emotional landscape of a practice, including ways to create more intentional and potent playlists.
• Make mantra accessible — learning simple approaches for introducing chanting to a general group of students, including those who may be new to it or skeptical of it.
• Explore the harmonium — learning a simple foundation for playing the harmonium and using it to create immersive soundscapes for chanting, meditation, storytelling, and readings.
This afternoon is an invitation to reignite your love for teaching by reconnecting with the soulful essence of yoga. Whether you’re longing to bring more meaning to your sequencing, more soul to your playlists, more creativity to your classes, or more courage to share your authentic voice, we’ll explore ways to let your teaching become a deeper expression of what you love.
Come ready to experiment, play, listen, sing, and discover what happens when we let a little more heart into the room.
