About this event

Black and Brown Bodies in Motion (BBM), is a collaboration with the Ohm Well’s Valerie McMillan and Wildseeds: The New Orleans Octavia Butler Emergent Strategy Collective. It features curvy-body friendly yoga and meditation. This weekly class centralizes the complex identities of Black and Brown individuals and is open to self-identified persons of color only. BBM is a direct response to the marginalization and or invisibility of yogis of color in traditional yoga studios and classes. What to expect during class? BBM classes are all-level power yoga classes and last one hour. Newcomers welcome! Feel free to take breaks whenever you need or sit in a restorative pose the entire class. Advanced practitioners are also welcome as modifications are provided to deepen and challenge your practice. Students have been known to sweat, laugh and even cry during class. Community is built as we dance together in our bodies and create a musical harmony with our breath. What to bring for class? Bring yourself, maybe a friend, a mat, water and a towel. There are also mats available to borrow and no extra charge. BIO: Valerie McMillan is Marley’s mom, a Leukemia survivor, yoga instructor, urban planner with the New Orleans City Planning Commission, a public health researcher, and Girl Scout troop leader. She also enjoys napping, Disney vacations and indulging in decadent matcha and chai lattes!
