COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Survivors, families, and community members gathered yesterday at Immaculate Conception Church (Baronne Street) to remember the 14 lives lost in the New Year’s Day 2025 attack on Bourbon Street with many sharing ongoing recovery efforts.  Fox 8
  • Roy Glapion left his long engineering career last December and now devotes his time to civic work and nonprofit leadership. He is advancing plans for a $15 million stadium at Carver High and mentors young professionals (a lifelong local) while championing New Orleans' future.  NOLA.com
  • Immaculate Conception Church held a prayer service yesterday honoring the 14 victims of the New Year’s Day terror attack. Families, survivors and community members joined the solemn event plus a temporary tribute on Bourbon Street will remain lit through Jan. 18.  WDSU
  • Over 100 community members gathered Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church—two blocks from Bourbon Street’s attack site—to honor 14 victims of last year’s terror. Leaders including Mayor-elect Helena Moreno spoke while families carried candles in a heartfelt procession.  NOLA.com

  • Cajun Broadband, a Broussard company that began with an antenna in a tree, expanded its fiber network across Acadiana using $18.2 million in BEAD funds. They held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 9 in Vermilion Parish with local officials & community members.  NOLA.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Louisiana Children’s Museum capped 2025 with new programming for older youth, launching a Teen Mentoring Program for nearly 500 teens & planning an 800 sqft exhibit for tweens. It also added health services through a partnership with Manning Family Children’s and will celebrate its 40th anniversary soon.  Biz New Orleans

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Saints have switched their backup quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Falcons after Spencer Rattler was ruled inactive due to a right finger injury (he missed practice all week), with Jake Haener elevated from the practice squad to back up starter Tyler Shough.  WWL-TV
  • The Saints lost 19-17 to the Falcons on Sunday, ending a four-game winning streak and finishing 6-11 in the NFC South. Rookie Tyler Shough threw for 259 yards as season-ending interviews stream on WDSU this week.  WDSU
  • On Sunday, Jan. 4, the Saints lost 19-17 to the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium when a late interception led to a decisive field goal & snapped their four-game winning streak.  Fox 8
