  • New Orleans is planning MLK Day service projects to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy — local leaders are inviting residents to join volunteer efforts across the city this upcoming Monday.  Fox 8

  • Brewery Saint X and Devil Moon BBQ closed their doors yesterday after nearly three years of service, hosting a farewell party from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. featuring $4 drafts, smoked meats, and NFL playoff games.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The New Orleans Tribune announced it will end its monthly print edition and shift to digital only, promising more frequent online content for Black New Orleanians. Editor Anitra Brown said the change comes amid declining advertising revenue (a challenge for Black media) and growing digital readership.  NOLA.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New Orleans drivers can save money at the pump by joining fuel rewards programs like Kroger Fuel Points and using perks from Walmart+ or Amazon Prime. Use gas-price apps like GasBuddy to find the lowest prices and maintain your vehicle (check tire pressure, avoid idling) for better fuel economy.  WDSU

  • Mayor Helena Moreno apologized Saturday on Instagram and is seeking private donations to cover DJ and musician fees for Carnival celebrations at Gallier Hall after her administration cut spending.   • The city is opening cold-weather shelters tonight for unhoused residents amid near-freezing temperatures; call 311 for availability at locations including New Orleans Mission (1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., 4 p.m. to 9 a.m.), The Salvation Army and Low Barrier Shelter.  WDSU
  • City officials are reviewing plans for Crescent Park after a riverfront fire disrupted the area. The project will improve park access and safety as final details are developed (more information to be released).  Fox 8
