ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire on Prytania Street Saturday afternoon displaced a dozen families from an eight-unit Garden District apartment building, drawing nearly 60 firefighters to rescue a couple trapped inside & prompting American Red Cross aid as investigators probe the cause.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Booker T. Washington’s Pride of Uptown is gearing up for Carnival Season as director Charles Jackson marks his anniversary return. The local band will perform at various Carnival events (details to follow) throughout the season.  WWL-TV
  • A New Orleans congregation held an interfaith musical service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy on Sunday, Jan. 18, uniting singers, musicians and worship leaders to promote unity and progress, with attendees highlighting his vision of judging by character over skin color.  WDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Helena Moreno apologized today to the local DJ community after CAO Joe Giarusso’s comments were seen as offensive, suggesting unpaid work amid a budget crisis. She clarified no offense was intended and said the city is preparing sponsorships to ensure local talent is paid for city events.  WWL-TV
