CRIME NEWS

  • NOPD removed all riders from the Krewe of Thoth parade float today after aggressive bead throwing raised safety concerns during the event.  Fox 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Published yesterday, Susan Larson interviewed Howard Phillips Smith about his book Unveiling the Muse: The Lost History of Gay Carnival in New Orleans and Al Kennedy about his book Chief of Chiefs: Robert Nathaniel Lee and the Mardi Gras Indians; the discussion highlighted the city’s vibrant literary scene.  WWNO
  • Edna Karr High School’s acclaimed marching band held a vibrant final practice on Feb. 4 as they prepared for eight Carnival parades, with their final parade set for today during Lundi Gras — the band is known for its unity and rich tradition in the community.  Verite News
  • New Orleans has chosen Kelsey Grace French as the 2026 Queen of Carnival + she will lead festivities during the upcoming season.  Fox 8
  • The Bacchagator float made a splash today during the Krewe of Bacchus parade and the 57th Rendezvous, drawing excited crowds along the festive route (Carnivalon4).  WWL-TV
  • Several Carnival parades took place Sunday on the Uptown route, featuring colorful floats and performances (including Canal Barge Company CEO H. Merritt Lane III crowned as Rex). The events celebrated Mardi Gras traditions and drew local crowds.  Fox 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Sewerage and Water Board is repairing a nearly 100-year-old force main break at North Galvez and St. Louis Avenue after heavy rain caused water surcharging, affecting fewer than 10 homes. Residents are advised to avoid the area until cleanup and disinfection are complete.  WWL-TV
