- ➤ Northshore Humane Society hosts Claws and Paws crawfish cookoff on March 21 at 1200 West Causeway Approach in Mandeville where 20 teams will cook 70-pound crawfish and patrons can vote while animals await adoption. Tickets cost $27.50 online and will rise March 1. NOLA.com
- ➤ Hundreds gathered Monday, March 2 at Xavier University to pay their respects to revered Dr. Norman C. Francis—whose funeral mass will take place today at St. Louis Cathedral. Fox 8
- ➤ Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Coca Cola are partnering to fund recycling of plastic and aluminum at Love the Boot Week cleanup events in 19 parishes from April 18 to 26. - ➤ Dorothy Prevost, a local civil rights pioneer whose courage in the 1960 desegregation of public schools helped reshape our community, died Feb. 20 in Laplace at age 94. She was honored at the 2022 Urban League Gala & celebrated alongside fellow trailblazers for breaking down segregation barriers. Verite News

- ➤ Sal's Seafood closed its Marrero location on Jan. 8 after more than 40 years serving crawfish + shrimp on the Westbank. Lefort's Seafood will take over the property, but no reopening date is set yet. WDSU
- ➤ The Morial Awards open nominations for their sixth annual recognition of a small business and a corporation making key contributions to local sustainability, economic growth and community impact. - ➤ The Audubon Institute in New Orleans announced new membership plans that went into effect Monday, offering families three options. The All Access Family Plus plan is now $325 a year, while the Zoo Only membership is $190 and the Aquarium & Insectarium Family Plus plan is $250 a year. WDSU

- ➤ The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry released its LA Driven strategic plan in 2023, outlining economic progress with job creation and wage growth now in the middle third nationally and improved classroom achievement that nears 2030 education targets. - ➤ LSU has announced that applicants for the Baton Rouge campus must again submit ACT or SAT scores for admission. LSU officials stated the change comes after they found retention rates and GPAs are higher among students who provide test scores compared to those who do not. Louisiana Radio Network

- ➤ New Orleans ordered Entergy to design a $28 million battery incentive program that supports backup batteries in 1,500 homes & 150 community institutions to form a virtual power plant for grid resilience.
