  • Universal Parking has been selected to manage parking at Canal Place and will launch its ParkWithU system (including mobile payment and automated controls) to ease congestion during busy events and enhance the visitor experience.  Biz New Orleans
  • Abry Brothers, a family firm that has shored and leveled structures in New Orleans for nearly 200 years, is facing rising insurance costs & uncertain FEMA grants while handling 150 projects annually and planning to hand operations over to its sons amid ongoing economic pressures.  NOLA.com
  • Charles & Julia Cocktail Bar, inside Hotel Perle in the Warehouse District at St. Charles and Julia, will open this spring as a cocktail lounge with a seasonally driven menu and an open air rooftop terrace for sunset drinks; further details will be announced soon.  Biz New Orleans
  • Major AI firms — pledging to cover grid costs for new data centers — announced on March 4 that they will not shift electricity expenses to customers, as noted in New Orleans. Local advocates have raised concerns that the plan could raise Entergy rates at Meta’s planned Richland Parish facility.  Biz New Orleans
  • Strategic Biofuels received a draft Class VI well permit from the Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy for its green fuels project at the Port of Columbia in Caldwell Parish. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana's crawfish industry faces a worker shortage after DHS (Department of Homeland Security) capped seasonal visas and processing plants struggled to hire needed staff. Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain said some peeling plants may close or outsource operations to Mexico if the current policy continues.  Fox 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Following community meetings and a legal review, the Orleans Parish School Board and NORA will open a developer solicitation for the historic Valena C. Jones building in May—requiring 34% of the property for educational use—with awards slated for September and renovations expected to start winter 2027.  Verite News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cleanup is underway after 12,600 gallons of crude oil spilled into the Gulf near barrier islands off Grand Isle on Feb. 26 — response teams from LOOP and government agencies are using 32 vessels and over 250 personnel with aerial, fixed-wing, and drone surveillance to recover the oil.  NOLA.com
