COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Orleans City Park will host its Lark in the Park fundraiser Friday to celebrate six months of upgrades — the first phase of a new master plan to develop 900 acres on its north side. Upgrades include new trails, sport courts, and renovated facilities driven by resident input.  Fox 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Loyola University’s College of Business is producing New Orleans Entrepreneur Week—a celebration of local founders, investors, and students—that kicks off today and continues through March 14. Events will culminate with the NOEW Summit at Loyola on March 12 and 13.  WWL-TV
  • Safta’s Table, a Mediterranean café by Pomegranate Hospitality, has opened in Lakeshore with a menu featuring hummus, falafel and roasted chicken with harissa glaze. Located at (129 Allen Toussaint Blvd.), it serves guests Sunday–Thursday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.  New Orleans City Business

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jazz vocalist Betty Shirley will perform at Dew Drop Jazz & Social Hall in Old Metairie on March 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., where she will blend classic jazz and blues with her original compositions.  NOLA.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Paul's senior Connor Russo won the DAR Good Citizens Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution, Wharton Chapter, recognized for leadership with the Marching Wolves, student council, and significant community service. Family and school officials celebrated his achievements.  NOLA.com
  • Residents take part in a quiz about the historic Valena C. Jones building in the 7th Ward, a vacant school (graffiti-covered on March 3) donated in 1928 for education. The community offers ideas for its redevelopment, and the quiz asks which group made the donation.  Verite News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A boil water advisory in Uptown was lifted after a water main break occurred at 2:15 a.m. on Monday on Panola Street and South Carrollton Ave, though several streets remain closed and Mayor Helena Moreno is calling for a citywide pipe audit.  WDSU
  • Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry urged passage of Constitutional Amendment 3 in his State of the State address, aiming to permanently boost teacher pay on the May 16 ballot + the measure would provide $2,200 for teachers and $1,100 for support staff by reducing Teachers Retirement System debt.  WWL-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nim Yoga, a boutique studio dedicated to the Kaiut Yoga Method, opened today in the Irish Channel at 3501 Tchoupitoulas Street. Founded by Carla Nimrichter, who has long taught Kaiut Yoga, the studio offers daily classes and a monthly community series (its only dedicated space in Louisiana) for joint mobility.  Biz New Orleans

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Metairie Towers, a vacant seven-story condo on four acres on Metairie Road, will go to a sheriff’s sale on April 1 after redevelopment stalled under former owner Darren Aschaffenburg. The auction gives local investors a chance to secure a discount + invest in a coveted property.  NOLA.com
  • City officials said the Lincoln Beach redevelopment design is 60 percent complete with consultants and contractors who joined in November. Construction bidding will begin mid-year and a community meeting is planned for June to update residents on this historic project.  WDSU

  • The New Orleans Saints signed local Travis Etienne (a Jennings native) to a deal worth $52 million over four years to strengthen their backfield. The team is also set to add guard David Edwards, tight end Noah Fant and punter Ryan Wright to enhance its roster.  WRNO
