  • New Orleans students with special needs rode a float for free and received beads at Saturday—Mar. 14—Irish Channel St. Patrick’s parade, which began at Annunciation Playground near St. Michael’s Special School as part of an ongoing tradition.  Fox 8
  • Audrey Jones Haynes Valentine turned 100 on Mar. 13 in New Orleans and celebrated her milestone after over 30 years at Charity Hospital. She credits love & daily prayer for her long, healthy life with five children, eight grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.  WDSU
  • Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees visited Eddie, a devoted New Orleans fan in hospice in Mission Viejo, fulfilling one of his final wishes before his battle with a terminal brain tumor. Brees spent time tossing passes with Eddie and his family (including his teen sons).  Fox 8

  • Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie announced new retail tenants and store renovations planned for 2026; Coach has opened, and brands like Gorjana, Aritzia, Clarks, and Chicken Salad Chick are scheduled to debut, while Foot Locker and Zumiez will relocate and expand (the center now attracts visitors from 60 miles away).  Biz New Orleans

  • A local second line honored Dorothy Prevost (94), mother of one of the New Orleans Four, along Reverend John Raphael Jr. Way after a tribute at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The procession celebrated her legacy as a civil rights matriarch.  WWL-TV

  • George Washington Carver High School in the Upper 9th Ward, serving 820 students, is known for its tailored support programs and extra credit incentives that boost academic achievement and college readiness. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Mardi Gras Indians celebrate Super Sunday as the New Orleans Police Department urges safe festivities by enforcing traffic restrictions and advising residents to leave firearms at home — no parking is allowed on LaSalle, Third, Fourth, Washington, and Feret streets from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  WWL-TV
  • Louisiana legislators have introduced several bills that aim to adjust school vaccination requirements and water fluoridation rules while also boosting oversight of homeless services in response to ongoing local challenges.
