  • Finn McCool’s in Mid-City raised nearly $30K for childhood cancer research during its 17th annual St. Baldrick's event, demonstrating the pub's ongoing commitment to community health.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • New Orleans is set to host the Stella! Shouting Contest during the Tennessee Williams literary festival, where contestants will mimic the famous scene from A Streetcar Named Desire (a local art highlight).  WWL-TV
  • The Walnut Room opened in 1940 at Lakefront Airport (in the Art Deco terminal) and first hosted live music performances. It served as a nightclub and discotheque over the years before a post-Katrina renovation transformed it into Messina’s Runway Cafe.  NOLA.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Working musicians were offered free health screenings (including checks for blood pressure, glucose, vision and hearing) at a clinic hosted by the local chapter of the American Federation of Musicians on Saturday in Treme. Union leaders hope to make the clinic an annual event to better support local entertainers.  Fox 8
