COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fox 8 launched a 6 p.m. streaming newscast on Monday, Mar. 23, airing weekdays on its app, website, Roku, Firestick, and Apple TV (anchored by Lauren McCoy, Sports Director Juan Kincaid, and Chief Meteorologist Bruce Katz).  Fox 8
  • Make-A-Wish is expanding its leadership in Louisiana as more than 300 children wait for wish experiences. The chapter has added new board members (including Dana Bledsoe and Sam Zurich III) and increased local staff capacity and will hold its first annual Wish Classic Golf Tournament on Sept. 10 at TPC of Louisiana to further support its mission.  Biz New Orleans

  • St. Mary's Kitchen, a new restaurant in Metairie, opens today and donates 15% of its profits to support the residential community in Alexandria.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sweet Emma Barrett was a self-taught pianist who became a New Orleans jazz icon by playing publicly by age 12 and performing with legends like Louis Armstrong. Her red skullcap and lively style made her a cherished figure in local music history + a trailblazer for women in jazz.  Verite News
  • Bryan Adams will perform at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Friday, July 31 with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo joining as special guests (tickets are on presale today through Citi and Verizon with general sales beginning Friday at 10 a.m. ET).  WWL-TV
  • The 2025 vampire thriller 'Sinners', which secured 16 Oscar nominations and four wins, is boosting Louisiana's film industry. Jason Waggenspack of Ranch Film Studios said seven productions (one major film in Baton Rouge, two mid-size films in New Orleans, and several independent projects) are in the works.  WRNO

  • Louisiana LNG plants will boost shipments over the coming months — a step taken after damage to Qatar’s facility cut global supply — and officials warn that higher exports may raise local gas and electric costs.  New Orleans City Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Terrebonne Parish Council is scheduled to review measures to contain an oil leak from the Louisiana Offshore Port. The meeting planned for later this week will address environmental and community impacts in the area.  Fox 8
  • Travelers at Armstrong Airport slept in TSA lines overnight as the shutdown entered week six. Airport officials (citing staffing issues) said they are working on solutions to ease delays in coming days.  Fox 8

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Tredway closed on Christopher Homes, a portfolio of over 1,600 affordable units for seniors and disabled residents in New Orleans. The developer will initiate extensive renovations + introduce new on-site services while preserving HUD subsidies and keeping the homes affordable for 40 years.  Biz New Orleans

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU stars Flau'jae Johnson & Mikaylah Williams led the Tigers to a 101-47 win over Texas Tech in the second round at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, advancing them into the Sweet 16. The team will travel to Sacramento to face the Baylor-Duke winner next.  WDSU
  • LSU Lady Tigers beat Texas Tech 101-47 as Flau’jae Johnson, in her final home game, scored 24 points and helped the team with strong defense. They will face Duke Friday in the Sacramento 2 Region semifinals.  Louisiana Radio Network
