- ➤ A New Orleans man accused of dismembering a woman in the Ninth Ward had his trial postponed to Aug. 4 after his attorneys requested more time to prepare—Benjamin Beale was arrested in January 2022 and faces second-degree murder charges in connection with Julia Dardar’s death. WDSU
- ➤ The NOPD arrested Christopher Parker on Monday in connection with a shooting in the French Quarter that injured five people on Sunday night near the intersection of Decatur and Iberville — police recovered two guns and all victims remain in stable condition. WDSU
- ➤ The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified two men—James E. Newman, 53, and William J. Shoop, 73—as the victims of an early morning Thursday shooting in the 7th Ward near the 1700 block of Rousselin Street, and police arrested their roommate after a four-hour standoff in the French Quarter sparked by a mental health crisis. - ➤ This fall, Xavier University in New Orleans will become the first HBCU to field a co-ed varsity rowing team as it upgrades from a club sport to a fully funded program — complete with a full-time coach and six scholarships to support new talent. - ➤ Ascension Parish drainage workers are beginning a test project to cap a 4-acre stretch of red mud waste ponds near Gonzales to reduce red dust affecting nearby neighborhoods, following a formal agreement with DEQ and LAlumina. Parish officials said the work will use dirt from local projects and is a first step in a larger four-year plan to cover up to 105 acres of waste ponds. NOLA.com
