CRIME NEWS

  • New Orleans police investigated a shooting on the 14700 block of Peltier Drive on April 19 & a man was transported to a hospital in a private vehicle where he remained in stable condition.  WDSU
  • New Orleans Police are seeking 24-year-old Maxwell Lewis+ his family fears for his safety as he battles multiple medical problems.  WWL-TV
  • New Orleans police arrested Keenan Robinson, 44, and Alphonse Smith, 43, in a joint narcotics investigation after executing a high risk search warrant on the 3200 block of Saint Peter Street and the 7500 block of Means Avenue—confiscating firearms, cash, various drugs and a stolen black Nissan Rogue—and have charged both men with multiple counts of drug law violations and illegal firearm possession.  WDSU
  • New Orleans police are investigating a shooting on the 3700 block of South Claiborne Avenue where a victim was injured and taken to the hospital around 2:20 a.m. on April 20—officials have not yet confirmed the victim’s condition as the investigation continues.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today marks the 100th anniversary of New Orleans’ first commercial radio station, WSMB 1350 AM, which signed on in 1925 and served as an NBC then ABC affiliate. Its studios were on the 13th floor of the Maison Blanche building at 921 Canal St—now the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.  WBOK
  • Ye Olde College Inn on South Carrollton began as a walk-up sandwich and barbecue spot called the Pig Stand — its name changed in 1933 to attract Tulane and Loyola students and later added 'Ye Olde' in the 1940s to set it apart — and reopened next door after Hurricane Katrina flooded its original building.  WBOK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced road closures today as the Zurich Classic runs through Sunday, April 27—Segnette Boulevard and Lapalco Boulevard westbound toward Highway 90 will be closed to non-tournament traffic while eastbound lanes turn two-way. Starting Thursday, westbound Nicolle Boulevard at NOLA Motorsports Park and eastbound Nicolle Boulevard and Pat Dr. will be closed with both streets set to a 25 mph speed limit.  WDSU
