COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Orleans will host many community events this week. Shorty Fest starts at Tipitina’s on April 27, the Zurich Classic tournament runs through April 26 at TPC Louisiana, and family-friendly Zoo-To-Do is set for April 24 at Audubon Zoo (plus more local festivities are on the calendar).  NOLA.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • NBA YoungBoy’s documentary American YoungBoy screened in Louisiana theaters on Wednesday, Apr. 22, featuring footage from his MASA Tour and behind-the-scenes moments. It played in venues across Baton Rouge, Harahan, Kenner, and other areas.  Fox 8
  • The Edna Karr Choir will perform at Jazz Fest’s Gospel Tent today, offering students a chance to gain musical skills and character lessons in a hands-on show; music director Senais Edwards (of Edna Karr High) said the event helps kids embrace their passion and express themselves.  WDSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A University of Alabama study finds 99% of New Orleans residents—about 380,000 people—face very high flood risk from extreme weather. City officials may use the report to plan for future storms + boost protective measures.  Fox 8
  • Pontchartrain Conservancy has received $1M from Valero to fund a multi-year coastal forest restoration project. The initiative will monitor environmental conditions and restore up to 125 acres over five years in local estuary areas.  Biz New Orleans

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the city moves parking enforcement for Jazz Fest from Public Works to the Police Department at the Fair Grounds to help manage limited parking and crowded neighborhoods. Officials plan to add 50 parking officers in May and urge drivers to walk, bike or use public transit.  Fox 8

  • Louisiana Health confirms a pediatric resident in Kenner tested positive for measles after international travel exposure. Anyone who visited Kenner Target (1401 W. Esplanade Ave) or Walmart (300 W. Esplanade Ave) on April 17 should contact a health care provider.  WDSU
