- ➤ Forty Blue Star markers honoring service members have been placed in the metro area. The first marker was dedicated in 1955 at Fort Pike (purchased for $100 by local garden clubs) and new markers were added in 2022 in Bucktown and Arabi (to expand the memorial program). WBOK

- ➤ Police reported a man died in a shooting at 8:30 p.m. Friday on St. Claude near Poland in the Bywater—another shooting at 2 a.m. Saturday on Loyola near Howard in the CBD injured a person. WWL-TV

- ➤ During the past weekend, Jazz Fest drew large crowds to Fair Grounds in New Orleans as live music by legends like Gladys Knight energized the atmosphere—audiences also enjoyed sets from Lil Wayne and The Roots. Fox 8

- ➤ The Louisiana Wildlife Federation is asking residents & businesses to turn off nonessential lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 15 to help migratory birds avoid deadly collisions with buildings. - ➤ Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported a Honduran-born mother during a New Orleans ICE check-in along with her 2-year-old US citizen daughter and 11-year-old daughter, and a federal judge questioned whether proper process was followed by scheduling a hearing for May 16 — his order follows accounts of limited access to legal counsel. In a separate case, a Cuban-born mother in Tampa was removed with her 1-year-old daughter, leaving the family separated indefinitely. WDSU
- ➤ Army Corps of Engineers officials said they have suspended the permit for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project because key information was not provided, and all work must stop within 10 days—state leaders later criticized past permit decisions. Gov. Landry has argued that the previous permit process misled the public about costs and risks while officials now consider smaller diversion plans. NOLA.com
