- ➤ New Orleans Police Department honored 13-year-old DJ Daniel—a young hero battling terminal brain cancer since age 6—by awarding him the Medal of Merit and letting him chase criminals on the streets. - ➤ The Coast Guard said high river levels caused a collision on the Mississippi River near New Orleans Sunday night that led to six barges breaking free and one barge sinking — tugboats retrieved four barges while two remained entangled — and river traffic reopened Monday with restrictions. WWL-TV

- ➤ The trial of Bunnak Landon, charged with first-degree murder and two counts of obstruction of justice for allegedly killing 6-year-old Bella Fontenelle by leaving her body in a bucket on the victim's mother's lawn, began on Monday when 12 jurors and two alternates were selected and emotional testimony was heard from the girl's mother. - ➤ Governor Landry announced that Australian-based Woodside Energy will invest $17.5 billion in a new LNG facility in Calcasieu Parish & the project is set to create about 15,000 construction jobs, with operations beginning in 2029. - ➤ Kyron Walker, a student from Morris Jeff Community School, earned the HS² STEM Scholarship that funds a three-summer STEM program at Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale. - ➤ Ochsner Health broke ground Tuesday, April 29 on a new 343,000-square-foot children’s hospital at its Jefferson Highway campus thanks to a large donation from Gayle Benson.
