CULTURE NEWS

  • The Historic New Orleans Collection has opened a new exhibit called Making It Home: Vietnam to New Orleans that honors 50 years since the Vietnam War ended by showing items like a beauty pageant trophy, uniforms, and baby shoes that tell the story of Vietnamese refugees in our city. The free exhibit runs through Oct. 5 — it includes recorded stories and photos that explain how these early arrivals shaped local life.  NOLA.com
  • City leaders and Vietnamese community members gathered on Wednesday at the Vietnam War memorial in New Orleans to mark the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon — the ceremony featured a flag raising and wreath laying hosted by the Saigon Commission, the Vietnamese American Community of Louisiana and VIET and SONG CDC.  WDSU
  • Jazz Fest kicks off its second weekend today at the Fairgrounds as larger crowds gather to enjoy local food vendors, big headliners and music by local and national acts despite muddy weather.
