  • Spirit Airlines canceled operations immediately on the last day of Jazz Fest, leaving thousands jobless and travelers stranded at Louis Armstrong International Airport. Passengers, who faced frantic phone calls to secure new flights, now risk higher fares on routes such as Orlando, Tampa, Dallas & Chicago.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival ended Sunday at the Fair Grounds under clear skies after earlier rain shortened vendor hours, and strong attendance helped ease earlier setbacks. Vendors are already planning for next year's event.  WWL-TV
  • Joe Lopiccolo, a Metairie father, has released 'Rainbow,' a self-published picture book about hope, emotions and color learning for kids. Inspired by his infertility journey and written for his daughter Castin (which helps young readers connect colors with feelings), the book offers a warm message for all.  WDSU
  • Parkway Bakery & Tavern will bring its famous po-boys to Biloxi’s White Pillars Restaurant & Lounge on June 7, offering creative takes on the classic sandwich with gumbo + small plates.   • Lakeshore outscored Pearl River 11-4 on May 3 as an eight-run third inning clinched their Game 3 win and advanced them to the semifinals next week; coach Jacob Seward praised the improved mindset (their first semifinal run since 2023).  NOLA.com
  • Trainer Cherie DeVaux (the first female to win the Kentucky Derby) led Golden Tempo to a win at the Fair Grounds in the Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 17.  WWL-TV
  • LSU beat South Carolina for a three-game sweep over the weekend, boosting the Tigers' NCAA Tournament hopes with strong pitching+timely hits. The team will face tough Georgia in their next series.  Louisiana Radio Network
