  • Organized youth sports returned to Hardin Park in the 7th Ward after city agencies partnered with The 18th Ward to restart baseball, soccer and flag football programs—to reduce local crime and boost community recreation—and moved its soccer program from Easton to the historic site as part of efforts to revitalize a once-abandoned greenspace.  NOLA.com
  • Al Scramuzza, known as the Crawfish King and founder of Seafood City, died on Sunday at his home in Metairie after a brief illness at age 97—funeral services are pending.  WDSU

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash on I-10 West just before Morrison Road blocked the two left lanes at the Bullard Avenue exit and caused a 45-minute backup for drivers heading into New Orleans—authorities advise taking Chef Menteur Highway as an alternative route.  WWL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A teen fatally shot his father during a family argument at a Chalmette motel, the St. Bernard sheriff said, and police are investigating the incident (more details are pending).  Fox 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The House Appropriations Committee advanced a $49.4 billion state budget that funds $2,000 teacher stipends and fixes a nearly $200 million shortfall through spending delays, cuts, and savings from unspent funds— all without raising taxes. If HB1 passes next, the budget will move to the Senate Finance Committee with added measures for public safety and the Louisiana GATOR program.  WWNO
  • New Orleans officials are planning a stormwater fee—backed by a survey showing 53% support—to fix the city's drainage system and address rising flood risks from heavier storms. The proposal includes creating a stormwater department and may go to a November ballot if City Council approves the measures.  Verite News

  • Caesars New Orleans GM Samir Mowad joined Final Bet on May 12 to break down betting lines for the Saints and LSU Tigers—explaining odds and trends ahead of upcoming matchups.  Fox 8
  • The New Orleans Saints announced that their June 10 and 11 minicamp practices at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie will open to fans at 11:50 a.m., giving them a first look at the team under Head Coach Kellen Moore and new player additions. Free tickets are available with season ticketholders reserving from 9:00 a.m. today and the general public from 10:00 a.m.+ free parking is offered at the Shrine on Airline and capacity is limited.  WDSU
