  • The Junior League of New Orleans is hosting Period Poverty Week to expand access to free menstrual products across the region, with president Michelle Clarke Payne leading the effort.  WWL-TV
  • ARNO reported a drop in volunteer support as summer begins, leaving animal shelters short of help and thus planning two events to boost care: a brunch with Ruby on Saturday, May 16 at Ruby Slipper in Metairie and a Yappy Hour on Sunday, May 17 at The Bulldog Uptown (20% of proceeds donated).  NOLA.com

  • Parish Brewing Company announced a major expansion at its Broussard headquarters that will add a new brewhouse, lab, and office space, doubling its brewing capacity to produce 40,000 barrels annually; the 22,500-sqft facility will soon boost local craft beer production.  NOLA.com

  • Ferdinand Lucien Rousséve, the first Black licensed architect in New Orleans, designed the Central Congregational Church on Bienville Avenue in the late 1940s and his enduring work, including the former Ashton Theater in Hollygrove, continues to shape our city's heritage.  Verite News

  • Louisiana led the nation in reading improvement and ranked second in math with new Education Scorecard data released Wednesday. Gov. Jeff Landry credited removing cellphones from classrooms and teacher input (a strategy other states are watching) for the state's turnaround.  Fox 8
  • Senior Tonae Hilliard from NOCCA earned over $6.8 million in scholarships by showing hard work and leadership. This fall, she will attend Xavier University (through Tulane’s dual-degree engineering program) as she pursues biomedical engineering.  WWL-TV

  • The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center launched the Omni HQ Hotel website today to offer residents, small & emerging businesses, and the community FAQs and news on the Omni New Orleans project.
