  • Tracey's Irish Channel Bar, a beloved spot that has served the neighborhood for 15 years, will close on May 31 as owner Jeffrey Carreras said. He explained that the closure comes after the annual parade was canceled twice due to weather and permit issues — a final setback following the bar’s recent move from its Magazine Street location.  WDSU
  • Jessica Allen, a longtime member at Propeller, became CEO effective May 1 after serving as Co-CEO and in other roles since 2017. The nonprofit has supported nearly 300 ventures with $290M in funding and plans new programs to expand capital access and inclusive procurement—while co-founder Andrea Chen moves to an advisory role.  New Orleans City Business

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, officers responded to a stabbing on the 9800 block of Morrison Road where a fight between two juvenile brothers ended with one dying from multiple stab wounds and the other being arrested—police charged the suspect with second degree murder.  WWL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order on May 12th protecting colleges from NCAA penalties for NIL compensation—banning state funds from use in athlete payments until federal action or a settlement takes effect. A proposed bill may further exempt student-athlete NIL income from state taxes starting in 2026.  New Orleans City Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials said Louisiana reported 170 whooping cough cases with 42 hospitalizations and 2 infant deaths, and the outbreak is on track to beat the previous record of 214 cases set in 2013. Officials also noted that the measles investigation linked to a travel case closed on May 9 with only one extra case found—showing no active spread.  NOLA.com
