  • People’s Housing+ held its 2nd Annual Housing Summit yesterday at Ashé Powerhouse, 1731 Baronne Street, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.—the event focused on affordable housing access and generational wealth building, featuring panel discussions, a keynote by Brenda Breaux and a video address from Congressman Troy A.   • Tracey's Original Irish Channel Bar on Magazine Street will close on May 31 after the cancellation of the St. Patrick's Day parade hurt its business—owner Jeffrey Carreras said losing the event was the final blow.  WWL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • New Orleans officials investigated a Lakeview home on May 7 after police found mummified remains of an unknown man amid severe hoarding conditions—city teams started cleanup, boarded up the property, and prepared for mosquito abatement and rodent control.  Fox 8
  • Surveillance video shows that on May 2 at the Walmart parking lot on Tchoupitoulas, a New Orleans officer, after treating a man for an alleged overdose, became trapped in the open door of a moving car and was thrown into the street, which led her to fatally shoot the driver—both the officer and a nearby shopper were taken to University Medical Center.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary 'Crawfish King' Al Scramuzza, who popularized seasoned mudbugs in the early 1950s, died at his home in Metairie on May 11 after a brief illness and he was 97. Funeral services will be held May 19 at Lake Lawn Funeral Home (5100 Pontchartrain Blvd) with visitation (9 a.m.) and a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. before a traditional Second Line Parade.  Biz New Orleans
