- ➤ Frontier Airlines will add new flights from Louis Armstrong International starting in July after Spirit shut down, with daily routes to Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando and Atlanta along with additional flights to Denver, Philadelphia and seasonal service to Las Vegas (further route changes are under review). - ➤ Rivers Frederick, born in New Roads in 1874, rose from a family farm to become a leading surgeon in New Orleans. He taught at Flint Medical School and served as chief surgeon at Sarah Goodridge Hospital, advancing local medical care when Black doctors were rare. Verite News

- ➤ Bianca Jones became the first Black fire captain at the New Orleans Fire Department on Sunday, May 17 after years of dedicated service + the department recognized her historic achievement in a statement. WWL-TV
- ➤ Louisiana voters rejected Amendment 3 on Saturday that would have permanently raised teacher pay by $2,250, and Gov. Jeff Landry warned that no state employee will get a raise unless teachers do; union leaders say the decision will widen the gap after years of temporary stipends. Fox 8

- ➤ A new vending machine offering free birth control+emergency contraceptives, condoms, fentanyl test strips and Narcan opened at the New Orleans Healing Center on May 5.
