  • Multiple community events are planned in New Orleans as a Greek Festival will run from May 23 to 25 at Holy Trinity Cathedral with live music and kids' activities, a Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival will take place from May 30 to June 1 at the Auditorium and Grounds featuring local cuisine and swamp tours, and a Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival will be held on May 31 and June 1 at the Jazz and Heritage Center—Atmos Energy will host a natural gas bill assistance event on May 21 and the National WWII Museum will honor veterans on May 26.  NOLA.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 9-year-old girl was shot in the head during a May 12 shootout in Algiers and died on Friday after being declared brain dead while protecting her sister—an 18-year-old was arrested in connection with the shooting and police are seeking additional suspects.  WDSU
  • Seven of the ten men who escaped from a New Orleans jail three days ago remain on the run Monday — federal authorities have increased the reward to $10,000 per escapee while suspending three sheriff’s employees over faulty locks.  Verite News
  • Authorities continue to search for seven armed and dangerous fugitives who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on Friday by breaching a wall and removing a toilet—three of the ten escapees were captured Monday as officials investigate potential inside help and boost rewards to $20,000 per inmate.  WRNO
  • Seven inmates escaped from a New Orleans jail through a hole behind a toilet due to faulty locks and low staffing, and law enforcement began a wide manhunt as it took hours to notice their absence (three jail staff have been suspended) while some fugitives have been recaptured.  New Orleans City Business
