  • On December 12, 2025, residents in New Orleans East reported illegally parked trucks blocking sidewalks and access roads, which hindered local services. The city is increasing enforcement + exploring new parking options to boost community safety and support local development.  Verite News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A speeding car struck Olive Branch Café on Wednesday just before 3 p.m on General De Gaulle Drive in Algiers, causing damage but no injuries while the owner works with insurance adjusters and contractors to secure repairs and plan a limited reopening soon.  WWL-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local businesses in the Lower Garden District lost water on Wednesday morning as a planned valve project shut off supply along Magazine Street, forcing closures with less than 24 hours notice (Hivolt Coffee was affected). City officials said the emergency work did not require more notice.  WWL-TV
  • The annual Louisiana Energy Conference will take place May 27-29 in New Orleans, where energy executives, investors and analysts will explore trends in oil, natural gas + emerging sectors. The three-day capital markets event will offer insights for a shifting energy landscape.  Biz New Orleans

  • Second Line Arts Collective celebrates 10 years with the Sanaa Music Workshop June 8–19 at George and Joyce Wein Jazz and Heritage Center — ending with a June 19 final performance at Ellis Marsalis Center and joins a residency at Andre Cailloux Center to offer year-round mentorship for young musicians.  Biz New Orleans

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Bill Cassidy said in a conference call today that he will leave the Senate on Jan. 3 as he wraps up a 20-year career in politics, having served in the state legislature, U.S. House and Senate.  WWL-TV
  • Entergy reported that 10,158 customers lost power yesterday in areas including St. Roch, Florida Area, St. Claude, and parts of the Marigny, and crews worked to restore service, expecting power back by 6 p.m.  WWL-TV
  • Inspector General Kim Chatelain said a planned brewpub in downtown Gretna may risk the nonprofit status of Jefferson Facilities Inc because its commercial role exceeds a standard lease. Jefferson Facilities has filed legal action as the brewpub and taco restaurant near Huey P. Long Ave open this summer.  WWL-TV
  • Repairs are underway on multiple raw sewage leaks along the Dwyer Canal in New Orleans East, with testing on Arthur, Citrus, and Charlene drives set to finish this month; repair work on Lurline and Bonita + nearby streets is expected to complete by the end of June.  WWL-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • New Orleans EMS runs a blood infusion program that delivers lifesaving blood to patients on scene and reached its 400th infusion this week. The five-year program boosts survival rates and shows local medics are ready to help in emergencies (paramedic Kevin Mott noted).  WWL-TV

  • New Orleans City Park’s driving range reopened this week after a $2 million state-funded renovation updated the grass, flags, pin placements, and turf.   • The Saints have offered a contract to veteran Cameron Jordan and are weighing Alvin Kamara’s role amid salary cap challenges, GM Mickey Loomis said at a charity golf event (further decisions are expected in the next week or two).  WDSU

  • LSU announced that former head coach Ed Orgeron will join head coach Lane Kiffin’s football staff as special assistant to recruiting + defense, where he will help boost local talent recruitment and defensive play.
