  • Jefferson Parish Fire Department lost longtime captain Dennis Casey Jr. (45) in a boating accident near Chef Menteur Pass, officials confirmed; details remain limited as the investigation continues.  WWL-TV

  • Runners and walkers gathered in Metairie for a 5K run to begin day two of the Greek Festival. The event started early today — setting the tone for more festivities later.  WWL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former students gathered at Legacy Field at Warren Easton Charter High School today for Alumni Day despite light rain, continuing tradition & school pride.  WWL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last year, Gov. Landry reversed a five-year-old decision by approving exemptions for Folgers’ nearly $200M local investment & letting it recoup at least $4M in taxes. City officials, who recently learned of the change, worry the move may cut essential revenue.  NOLA.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • NOLA Cannabis Co. opened a new medical marijuana dispensary on the West Bank at 1544 Manhattan Blvd in Harvey on Friday. The 14,500 sqft facility offers retail, online ordering, drive-thru, and delivery, and a sixth location on Bourbon Street is planned as medical marijuana patient numbers continue to rise.  NOLA.com

  • LSU’s softball season ended Saturday night in Tuscaloosa when Alabama scored three runs in the fourth inning — a game marked by two weather delays — and won 4–1. LSU finished with a 40–19 record.  Fox 8
