- ➤ Since opening in November 2015, the Lafitte Greenway has turned a once neglected rail line into a 2.6-mile park in Mid-City that anchors affordable housing, playgrounds, public events and local businesses—drawing roughly $330 million in new development. - ➤ Leo Tate Sr. and Jermaine Donald, who escaped a New Orleans jail on May 16 by breaking through a cell door & sliding through a hole behind a toilet while a guard took a meal break, were apprehended on Monday afternoon in Walker County, Texas, leaving two alleged ringleaders still at large. - ➤ New Orleans jail escapee Lenton Vanburen Jr., originally held on charges including second-degree murder, was arrested Monday in Baton Rouge, making him the sixth inmate recaptured after a breakout 10 days ago; four remain at large and he now faces additional charges related to his escape (parole violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, and illegal carrying of a weapon).
