  • Tulane students built a modern prefab tiny home in the Lower Ninth Ward to provide permanent housing for someone experiencing homelessness. The project is part of Tulane’s URBANbuild program and used prefabricated materials with professionals handling plumbing and electrical work—while Louvis Services and Travelers Aid offered support and case management.  New Orleans City Business

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities said three inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail on May 16 were re-arrested on Monday—one in Baton Rouge and two in Walker County while two fugitives remain at large.  New Orleans City Business
  • Law enforcement continues the search for five high-risk inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16 after crawling through a hole behind a jail toilet — officials warn the fugitives may grow desperate and offer a $20,000 reward per inmate.  Fox 8
  • Inmates at New Orleans jail reported harsh conditions after 10 escaped through an unplugged toilet and officials later confirmed more water leaks and temporary shut-offs over Memorial Day weekend (repairs have been scheduled) while a maintenance worker was arrested as an accomplice (he allegedly turned off the water to aid the escape).  NOLA.com
  • Earlene Craft, 57, was found dead with head trauma and a gunshot wound in a Desire home on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.—her boyfriend Charles Blunt Sr. was arrested on a second-degree murder charge as police began investigating her death as a homicide.  NOLA.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Newly graduated Addison Lee from Archbishop Hannon High School received the DAR National Good Citizens Award — the first for Louisiana in 91 years, thanks to her long-time volunteer work at the World War II Museum. She will miss the award ceremony in Washington because she is starting at the Naval Academy, marking another milestone in her commitment to serve her country.  NOLA.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A judge ruled in favor of City Council by awarding New Orleans full ownership of coastal lands and lucrative leases originally donated by Edward Wisner—this decision nullifies a 2020 agreement with Wisner’s heirs and may boost city revenues by up to $6 million each year.  WWL-TV
  • More than 100,000 customers lost power Sunday when a nuclear plant tripped offline and another generator was down for scheduled maintenance, affecting Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines Parishes. Local officials and regulators will hold hearings to investigate why MISO did not back up energy—resulting in significant business losses and community disruptions.  Fox 8
