  • A New Orleans nonprofit uses 3D printing to create free assistive devices for people with disabilities, including a mobility trainer that recently helped little Blossom gain more freedom + nearly 800 global volunteers print the free designs online. Donations and volunteer support are being sought to expand its impact.  WWL-TV

  • Popeyes is launching a biscuit mix available at Target and Walmart that lets locals bake biscuits in homestyle and Cajun cheddar flavors. The mix offers a convenient way to enjoy Popeyes taste at home plus it will start selling soon.  WDSU
  • The new Porsche New Orleans dealership, owned by the Benson Automotive Group (one of six Generation 5 locations nationwide), welcomed VIPs Wednesday evening along Veterans Boulevard near the Metairie Kenner line and offers high-tech service in a booming local corridor.  Fox 8
  • Al Copeland Investments promoted longtime executive Allison Copeland Donnelly to president of its restaurant division, where she will manage key brands; the company will also launch a fundraising campaign on June 28 at its restaurants to support families facing pediatric cancer costs.  Biz New Orleans
  • Local sources are reviewing plans for an underground tunnel by Elon Musk in New Orleans – its exact location is still being studied and more details are expected soon.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Military vessels and tall ships entered New Orleans today as Sail 250 began with a 21-gun salute at Jackson Barracks & 12 ships lined the river for public tours starting Friday. The event marks the city’s role in celebrating the country's 250th birthday.  WWL-TV
  • New Orleans Public Library kicks off its Summer Fun & Reading Challenge on June 1, offering prizes like free books, mugs & tote bags for completing reading minutes and bingo tasks. Today, Nora Navra Library hosts a bandleader boot camp by local MaCCNO, and other free events continue at several branches through early June.  NOLA.com
  • Local nonprofit Restore Grand Isle purchased the Oleander Hotel on Grand Isle last week after raising over $400,000. The historic property, added to the National Register last year, will be restored into a visitor center with exhibits dedicated to photographer Fonville Winans and rotating local art.  NOLA.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNO will return to the LSU system this summer and rebrand as LSU New Orleans starting July 1, shifting its academic affiliation and identity to better serve students.  WWL-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana regulators & LSU officials are planning a seismic network in northwest Louisiana to track recent quakes near oil and gas sites. The new system will provide data needed to decide if wastewater injection is triggering the tremors.  NOLA.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pelicans introduced Jamahl Mosley as head coach on Tuesday at the team’s practice facility as owner Gayle Benson emphasized building a championship-caliber team. Mosley stressed accountability and communication (focusing on daily habits) to guide the squad toward success.  Fox 8
