CRIME NEWS

  • Brink’s employee Oprah Canselo from Harvey was arrested on May 28 for felony theft after an audit found $27,800 missing from a Metairie ATM, and she admitted taking a total of $80,000 due to financial hardships—authorities noted additional funds are missing from two Kentwood banks.  NOLA.com
  • Police raided a New Orleans home after fugitive Antoine Massey posted videos on social media, but he was already gone when authorities arrived—although they seized clothing they believe he wore during filming.  Fox 8
  • Antoine Massey escaped from Orleans Parish jail on May 16 and remains at large after 19 days on the run+ he has a history of multiple escapes, broken ankle monitors and violent charges, and he is now wanted on domestic abuse, motor vehicle theft, rape and kidnapping.  WBOK
  • Governor Jeff Landry urged fugitives Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves to surrender after Massey posted videos claiming his innocence during the third week of the manhunt following the May 16 jailbreak at the Orleans Justice Center — authorities are investigating the video’s authenticity and offering a combined $50,000 reward for tips leading to the arrests.  Fox 8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Super Bowl LIX generated an estimated $1.25 billion in economic output for Louisiana, more than double the economic impact from New Orleans' last hosting; state and local officials have begun pitching the NFL to return the game in the future.  NOLA.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Senate passed House Bill 153 on Monday, which raises unemployment work search actions from three to five each week—now the bill awaits Gov. Jeff Landry's signature to become law.  WBOK

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU Tigers advanced to the Super Regionals after beating Little Rock 10-6 with strong plays from Ethan Frey (4-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and four RBIs), Luis Hernandez, and Casan Evans. The team will host West Virginia in a best-of-three series at Alex Box Stadium starting Saturday at 1 p.m. (ESPN) and Sunday at 5 p.m. (ESPN2).  WRNO
