- ➤ Walmart’s Road to Open Call will hold its final event in New Orleans on June 26, where local entrepreneurs can pitch their made in the USA, shelf-ready products directly to a Walmart sourcing representative—applications selected by StartupNOLA, GNO, Inc. and TECHPLUG must be submitted by June 13— as part of a nationwide effort leading to the main Open Call in Bentonville. - ➤ Yvonne Busch was a trailblazing music teacher who taught many New Orleans musicians, including drummer Herlin Riley + R&B singer James 'Sugar Boy' Crawford. She led Carver Senior High School's band from 1958 until she retired in 1983 and helped thousands learn music before she died in 2014. Verite News
- ➤ The National WWII Museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary with events on campus and across New Orleans that honor WWII veterans, Home Front workers, and survivors. - ➤ Super Bowl LIX produced $1.25 billion in statewide economic activity and supported nearly 10,000 local jobs as New Orleans hosted its record-tying 11th Super Bowl. - ➤ Community Academies of New Orleans will merge Esperanza Academy and Foundation Preparatory Academy into one school across two campuses — a move aimed at reducing repair costs and downsizing amid declining enrollment. The merger will also allow the school to expand its dual language Spanish program from Pre-K through eighth grade. NOLA.com
- ➤ Louisiana education officials reported that kindergarteners reading at or above grade level doubled this school year from 28% to 61% after schools renewed phonics instruction—nearly 40% of third graders still did not reach grade level. - ➤ A roofing crew began work on a fortified roof along Jackson Avenue as lawmakers push Senate Bill 28 to offer a nonrefundable income tax credit of up to $10,000 for homeowners’ storm-resistant roof upgrades – the measure now moves to the full House for consideration amid rising demand for fortified homes.
