COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than $3 million in donations has been disbursed to survivors and families of the New Year’s Day Bourbon Street attack by the Greater New Orleans Foundation following nearly 3,000 contributions from local and national groups. Melissa Dedeaux, whose daughter was killed, said the funds will be used for a down payment on a home and to support future plans like opening a business (Cheyenne’s Place) in her daughter’s name.  NOLA.com
  • Today, the 39th Annual Creole Tomato Festival begins at the French Market with live music, food booths, fresh tomatoes, cooking demos and dance lessons. The free event runs through Sunday — drawing locals to celebrate Creole flavors.  WWL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Three of four teenagers charged in the late-night carjacking of Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams and his mother pleaded guilty Friday to armed robbery charges in Criminal District Court—while the remaining teen will face trial on Oct. 27 and the others are set for sentencing on Oct. 27.  NOLA.com
  • Three suspects—Santana Gilmore, Dijohn Curtis, and Amajha Curtis—changed their pleas to guilty in court on Friday for the carjacking of District Attorney Jason Williams and his mother on Race Street in October and will each serve 16 years with no probation at a sentencing set for October, while Ahmad Seals faces trial on Oct. 27 and 19-year-old Raymond Rochon pleaded guilty in March.  WDSU

  • The National WWII Museum announced a new 10-year capital campaign called Victory’s Promise Campaign during its ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the museum and the 81st anniversary of D-Day—aiming to raise $300M to expand exhibits, reach new audiences, and enhance educational programs.   • Since the law reclassified misoprostol and mifepristone as controlled dangerous substances last October, New Orleans health providers reported delays in treatments for conditions like postpartum hemorrhage — providers now face storage hurdles and treatment delays that have led to legal challenges.
