- ➤ Delta Utilities, a new natural gas utility based in New Orleans, is expanding its services in Louisiana + Mississippi after closing a $1.2 billion deal in April to buy CenterPoint Energy’s gas operations, which added 12,000 miles of pipeline, 380,000 customers and 500 employees. The company will complete a second deal this summer to acquire Entergy’s gas businesses in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, adding 200,000 customers and 200 employees while modernizing its systems. - ➤ Dillard University held a memorial service and jazz funeral for 19 Black New Orleanians whose skulls were taken from Charity Hospital and sent to Germany in the 1880s. - ➤ Tulane University secured $20 million in city funds to redevelop the old Charity Hospital as part of a settlement with the City Council—but no state funds have been allocated yet. - ➤ The Orleans Parish School Board's trial over millions of dollars the city is alleged to owe has been postponed after a judge ruled an essential party is missing.
