COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Orleans will host a busy series of community events in July with an environmental forum on storm planning on July 4 at the Renaissance Arts Warehouse District Hotel and a MAAFA celebration on July 5 at Congo Square featuring a procession of drummers, dancers and healers—other events include laser shows, film matinees, author talks and creative workshops held throughout the month.  NOLA.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Antoine Massey (a fugitive on the run for over a month) was captured Friday afternoon in Hollygrove after the May 16 jailbreak from Orleans Parish Jail and police are still seeking Derrick Groves, the only escapee remaining.  WDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans issued a boil water advisory today for areas on South Carrollton Avenue between South Claiborne and the river, on South Claiborne Avenue between South Carrollton and Jackson, and on Jackson Avenue between South Claiborne and the river—residents must boil water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and making ice until crews restore stable pressure.  WDSU
  • The Louisiana Legislature approved the Coastal Protection Restoration Authority’s $1.98 billion Fiscal Year 2026 Annual Plan to support 146 active projects, maintain 163 past projects, and create over 13,000 direct jobs. Coastal Resource Administrator Greg Grandy said the plan includes marsh creation, barrier island restoration and major flood risk reduction projects across the coast — a historic investment entirely funded by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement — that will protect our coastal wetlands.  Louisiana Radio Network
  • Louisiana officials have enacted Act 170 that lets police intercept and disable drones that may threaten public safety—law enforcement can now use methods like jamming or physically capturing drones. Gov. Jeff Landry and lawmakers say the law will also fine or jail drone operators who fly over parades without proper permissions.  NOLA.com
  • Jim Cook, a longtime Marriott executive, has been named the new President and CEO of the Convention Center and will start his role in August as the center begins a $557M expansion of exhibits and public areas. The 26-year hotel veteran will lead upgrades and new projects—such as the River District development and an Omni headquarters hotel—to boost the city’s economic and cultural offerings.  New Orleans City Business
  • The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled Friday that Kelly Orgeron will get $8.13 million from her ex-husband's $17-million LSU buyout because their binding contract said the money was shared - her lawyers called the ruling a fair use of community property law.  WBOK
