- ➤ Meta and Hyundai have asked for tax cuts to build a $10B AI data center in Richland and a $5.7B hydrogen steel mill in Ascension, which will create more than 10,000 jobs and add $139M in payroll. - ➤ Fourteen candidates are vying for New Orleans Mayor and five are running for Orleans Parish Sheriff in the October ballot — the contests will prove competitive as voters decide on their future leadership. - ➤ Major Louis D’Aquin’s Battalion of Free Men of Color fought for New Orleans after General Andrew Jackson promised each member 160 acres in exchange for help during the battle against the British—federal officials later dropped the promise to calm fears of destabilizing slavery, and the battalion disbanded.
