CRIME NEWS

  • Federal agents arrested four law enforcement officials and a businessman on Tuesday for allegedly faking armed robberies to secure visas for immigrants—200 officers executed 11 search warrants across multiple sites as the scheme, which began in 2015, reportedly led to hundreds of visas being approved.  NOLA.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters say a slow-moving system is bringing heavy rain and flash flooding risk to southeast Louisiana including New Orleans, which expects 2 to 3 inches of rain until Saturday. Local officials opened sandbag stations and lifted parking restrictions to manage flooding—Acadiana could see up to 4 to 6 inches in some areas.  NOLA.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state appeals court upheld the firing of Nha Do on July 14 after he approved permits on his own properties (four approvals in 2016 and 2017) and broke city rules, leading to his termination in February 2024. The court confirmed that the department met its burden in proving that his actions created a clear conflict of interest.  Fox 8
