  • Breeze Airways will launch daily nonstop flights from New Orleans to Las Vegas & Los Angeles in February 2026. The airline rescheduled the Vegas service from February 2025 & reinstated the Los Angeles route that ended in 2023, while also adding nonstop flights to Tampa, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Savannah.  New Orleans City Business

CRIME NEWS

  • Mark Hunter Jr., a 24-year-old from Belle Chasse, is accused of striking two officers on Bourbon Street—one suffering a critical head injury—and was arrested in a Canal Place parking garage; he has a long criminal history including prior hit-and-run and battery charges.  Fox 8
  • Seven year old Corey Williams Jr. lost his mother Dereial Manning, who was shot nine times at a friend's apartment in New Orleans East, and his father Corey Williams Sr., who was killed along an interstate in Baton Rouge in 2020—he now honors their memory by working hard in school and dreaming of a future as a cameraman while living with his grandmother.  WDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials reported they were blindsided when Mayor LaToya Cantrell signed a no-bid emergency sanitation contract with Henry Consulting on July 9—she reversed plans to extend IV Waste's service until year-end. Council members questioned the contract’s validity since the emergency declaration was rescinded on July 10 and the performance bond was missing, while Henry said the contract will begin on July 31.  NOLA.com
  • FOX 8’s Maddie Kerth discovered a security lapse at the courthouse Saturday morning when the side entrance meant to stay locked was left open — this issue follows Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson’s recent staffing problems that could lead to her sentencing on August 4.  Fox 8
  • Top aides in Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s team publicly criticized her choice to end IV Waste’s emergency contract on July 31 and replace it with Henry Consulting because they believed the new firm is unready to begin work.
