  • Sheriff Susan Hutson’s re-election bid faces more trouble after Orleans Justice Center mistakenly released inmate Khalil Bryan on July 25, adding to past jail issues like a major inmate escape and a suspended campaign. Political analysts say her campaign suffers from low fundraising & rising negative publicity as she prepares for upcoming legal proceedings on Aug. 4.  Fox 8
  • After the French Quarter Management District board approved an emergency sanitation contract paying IV Waste $495,000 for August, Henry Consulting is set to start similar work Friday. The decision escalates a months-long feud and could lead to overlapping services—causing extra costs for taxpayers.  NOLA.com
  • On Monday, the French Quarter Management District board voted to have IV Waste continue picking up trash in the Vieux Carre starting this Thursday if the city lacks a legally executed contract. City leaders plan to award an emergency contract to Troy Henry Consulting, and district chair Jane Cooper said the district may go to court to force the city to pay the $450,000 per month fee + that action could raise costs for local taxpayers.  WWL-TV
