- ➤ Tulane men's basketball senior forward Gregg Glenn, III died in a swimming accident over the weekend — he transferred from Michigan and started all 34 games last season — as announced by the basketball program. WRNO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The NOPD is investigating a deadly shooting in Algiers after a man died near the intersection of General De Gaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway by a RaceTrac gas station and Orleans Parish School Board Office shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday — investigators have not yet identified a suspect or motive. - ➤ A man and a woman died in an apparent murder-suicide in Harvey when deputies responded to gunshots just after 11:30 p.m. Monday on the 500 block of 3rd Avenue and found both victims with gunshot wounds—one declared dead on scene while the woman died at a hospital, with a firearm recovered nearby. - ➤ The 25th annual Satchmo SummerFest will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 2 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum with live music on two stages, local food vendors, a lecture series honoring Louis Armstrong’s legacy, and a curated exhibit of festival memorabilia. - ➤ Political groups have raised over $418,000 in Super PAC funds for the upcoming New Orleans mayoral race following recent Louisiana law changes that allow more anonymous donations—analysts say the new rules may lead to tougher attack ads. This shift adds uncertainty to the campaign as donors remain partly unidentified. WWL-TV
- ➤ The Louisiana Attorney General’s office and Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office met on July 29 to reduce Judge Darryl Derbigny’s felony case backlog — the docket held more than 415 cases over 12 months, costing taxpayers extra money. The agencies will take over about 225–250 cases and appoint a second ad hoc judge to speed up the criminal justice process and cut costs at the Orleans Justice Center. Fox 8
