ECONOMY NEWS

  • Meta announced it will build a $10 billion AI data center on farmland in Richland Parish that will be powered by new natural gas plants from Entergy, with work already underway. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Orleans lost nearly 40,000 residents since 2020 as high insurance and housing costs push locals away. Mayoral candidates promise affordable housing and stronger public services — claims that may hold promise for residents like musician Nelson Williams — as the city seeks to reverse its population decline.  New Orleans City Business
  • After two bicyclists died in vehicle crashes along St. Claude Avenue in July, city and state officials are taking steps to improve road safety. DOTD has committed $500,000 for a study while Public Works will soon count traffic and NOPD plans to boost patrols — Councilman Freddie King said a council resolution will aim to enhance collaboration between the city and DOTD.  Fox 8
  • Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles will use a new computer system from CHAMP Titles to speed up driver’s licenses and registrations. The state will finish the driver’s license part in one year and all services in two years, and the contract costs $54 million over six years — a change set to make visits quicker and friendlier.  WBOK
  • The Louisiana Supreme Court granted a temporary injunction on July 30 to keep IV Waste as the French Quarter's sanitation provider pending a lawsuit over Mayor Cantrell’s emergency contract.
