  • Beloved Mona Lisa restaurant in the French Quarter, known for its Italian cuisine and quirky charm, faces eviction after nearly 20 years as the owners learned via text that they must leave in 60 days—community members are planning a 'Night of One-Thousand Mona Lisas' event on August 16 to show their support.  Fox 8

  • Early Saturday, Aug. 2, PeeWee's Crabcakes on Old Gentilly Road was vandalized when a man with shoulder-length dreadlocks struck the shop's windows and utility boxes with a hammer—causing over $6,000 in damage as police review the security footage.  Fox 8
  • A Covington woman died in a three-car crash at the intersection of LA 36 and Highway 3241 early Saturday when her 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, driven without a seatbelt, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 2010 Honda Fit and a 2009 Ford F-150—injuring two others who were taken to a nearby hospital, Louisiana State Police said.  Fox 8
  • A Pointe aux Chenes couple, Davin Sampay, 26 & Skyler Ferrell, 24 were arrested on Thursday in a narcotics investigation for selling meth and cruelty to juveniles after agents found Xanax, Soma, hydrocodone and paraphernalia at their home on July 31, with bail set at $131,000 for Sampay and $100,000 for Ferrell.  WDSU
  • A 36-year-old man from Hahnville, John Brignac Jr., was arrested after he vandalized multiple graves at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling on Wednesday and Thursday+ he now faces six counts of desecration of graves and criminal trespass.  NOLA.com

  • Crowds celebrated 25 years of Satchmo SummerFest in New Orleans as hundreds gathered to honor jazz legend Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong — marking a milestone in local jazz tradition.  WWL-TV
  • St. Augustine Church is hosting a special mass honoring jazz legend Louis Armstrong — the service will offer musical tributes that celebrate his lasting influence on jazz for the local community.  Fox 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hurricane forecasters tracked two disturbances in the Atlantic—one found 180 miles off the North Carolina coast at 7 a.m. Sunday with a 50% chance of briefly becoming Tropical Storm Dexter by today and a tropical wave off Africa expected to develop into a storm next week—and said neither poses an immediate threat to Louisiana.  NOLA.com

  • Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson ended her mid-July filing period with only $715 in cash while challengers like Michelle Woodfork raised over $128,000. A May 16 jail escape on her watch has sparked calls for her resignation+ she has so far refused outside help as she seeks a second term.  Fox 8
