  • Thousands of runners dressed in red will take part in the 30th annual Red Dress Run starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Armstrong Park. The two-mile race will follow a route through the French Quarter with stops at local bars—benefiting local nonprofits after last year’s event raised $150,000.  WWL-TV

  • In May, 10 detainees escaped the Orleans Parish jail after sliding cell doors repeatedly jammed with debris such as Scrabble tiles for 60 days+ Sheriff Susan Hutson now plans to replace the failing locks with electromechanical Willo wedge locks, an upgrade estimated to cost between $5.1M and $15M.  NOLA.com

  • City leaders met at Basin Street Station on August 5 to honor the 65th anniversary of the New Orleans Four—four brave girls who changed public schools and boosted the civil rights fight. They announced a Legacy Weekend set for November 14-16 to celebrate this milestone and the ongoing push for educational justice.  WWL-TV
  • Since 1972 the Krewe of Dreux has brought Gentilly neighbors together with relaxed Mardi Gras celebrations featuring parades, pot-smoking and freewheeling parties that honor its grassroots origins.
