CRIME NEWS

  • New Orleans police investigated a triple shooting in Pines Village on August 10th around 2 p.m.—a man and a woman died and a man was taken to a local hospital, with further details pending.  WDSU
  • Police said a woman was killed and another wounded in a Central City shooting early Sunday on the 2200 block of Magnolia Street (the injured victim was taken to a local hospital and her gunshot wound is not life threatening).  NOLA.com
  • A man was injured when a fight in the French Quarter ended in a stabbing Saturday night at about 9:30 p.m. on Toulouse Street; police said he was sprayed with tear gas (before being cut) and he survived after reaching a local hospital.  NOLA.com
  • Authorities say a scammer posing as a NOPD officer has called New Orleans residents claiming they have arrest warrants—officials warn that the police will never call to resolve a warrant and advise hanging up to report the scam.  WWL-TV
  • Police say bullets flew overnight in Central City when two women were shot on the 2200 block of Magnolia Street just after midnight—one woman died at the scene while the other was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.  WWL-TV
  • Tim Chung, 33 (with autism and a speech impediment) was last seen leaving his Metairie home on Aug. 9 to walk to Our Lady of La Vang Church; his family said he rarely goes out on his own and Jefferson Parish authorities urge anyone with information to call 911.  WDSU

  • Louisiana Economic Development has launched its ambitious 9×90 Work Plan — a set of nine initiatives that will boost economic growth, spur innovation, and expand job opportunities — which will be completed by the end of next year as LED approaches its 90th anniversary.  Biz New Orleans
  • Records show that last year Harahan paid nearly $882K to an unlicensed contractor for projects including a veterans’ memorial park and repairs at a senior center without formal bids or binding agreements — council members say the payments were split into phases to avoid state contract rules. Critics questioned Mayor Baudier’s oversight and transparency as they scrutinized the city's spending practices.  NOLA.com
