  • Trader Joe’s will open a new store at 2501 Tulane Ave. on Aug. 14 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m.—creating 80 local jobs for the community. The 9683 square foot store is expected to boost retail activity along Tulane Ave and support ongoing redevelopment in the area.  Biz New Orleans

CRIME NEWS

  • A 7-year-old New Orleans boy reported missing from his home on Keubel Drive in Seabrook on July 23 was safely returned to his family and his grandmother, Antoinette Edwards Johnson, has been charged with simple kidnapping+is in custody.  WDSU
  • Former Orleans 911 Director Tyrell Morris's trial was delayed on Tuesday as both sides agreed to allow more time for review of new evidence—his trial is now set for Sept. 22 and his next hearing is on Aug. 22.  WDSU
  • A triple shooting in the Seventh Ward left one person dead and two injured near Allen — North Dorgenois streets as police said EMS took two victims to the hospital while a third sought treatment at University Medical Center and later died.  Fox 8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Amtrak will relaunch the Gulf Coast route—Mardi Gras Service—from New Orleans to Mobile on Saturday after nearly 30 years away, offering two daily departures that stop at Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula with a four-hour ride and fares starting at $15. The service will include local on-board meal options like muffulettas and Zapp’s VooDoo Chips to drive economic growth along the Gulf Coast.  NOLA.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • An audit found Louisiana’s Medicaid program paid nearly $10 million for more than 1,000 dead beneficiaries from February 2019 to March 2025—funds given to managed care organizations even though no services were provided. State officials agreed to use the Social Security Death Master File and have withheld $4 million to recover some of the payments.  New Orleans City Business
  • The Louisiana Department of Health reported that 20 people were hospitalized with vibrio vulnificus infections this year and four died—three additional cases were recorded in the past month, raising caution for those with open wounds or weakened health.  Fox 8
