  • The New Orleans Saints will start their 10th 50/50 Raffle tradition this season at home games in the Caesars Superdome—half of ticket sales will go to more than 10 local nonprofits while winners receive the other half. The program, which set a record with $627,794 last season, will launch at the preseason game on Aug. 17 and aims to exceed that total this year.  New Orleans City Business
  • On Aug. 5, the Greater New Orleans Foundation hosted its sixth annual Celebration of Black Philanthropy at the National WWII Museum—honoring Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré and announcing its 2025 Greater Together Fund grantees that support racial equity in the community. More than 200 guests attended the event as it marked nearly 20 years since Hurricane Katrina and underscored the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to change.  Biz New Orleans

  • New Orleans Police charged 56-year-old Terrance 'TJ' Johnson with two counts of prostitution, three counts of malfeasance in office and two counts of injuring public records after evidence linked him with French Quarter prostitutes while Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said his actions did not reflect NOPD values.  Louisiana Radio Network
  • New Orleans police said a domestic double murder-suicide occurred on Sunday at a Pines Village home on the 5900 block of Boeing Street when 31-year-old Jarrell Stevenson, upset over a dispute about calling the police, shot his mother Zennitria Stevenson and her partner Esvin Carrera before dying from his own gunshot wounds.  NOLA.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • A New Orleans judge cleared the zoning exception for a museum at Oretha Castle Haley’s childhood home in Treme, siding with homeowner Candice Henderson-Chandler after the City Council had denied the application. The ruling now leaves next steps to whether the Council honors the decision or appeals—plans include youth tours and exhibits to highlight the home’s historical role.  NOLA.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • A survey by SleepJunkie of over 3,000 adults shows Louisiana residents would pay an average of $109.90 for a guaranteed night of perfect sleep—Plaquemines Parish leads with $123.19. Most respondents said they wake up fully rested only three nights a week, with 53% willing to take a 5% pay cut and 46% ready to trade a vacation for a week of uninterrupted sleep.  WWL-TV
